Repsol starts building LNG bunkering facility in Bilbao

Spanish energy company Repsol has started building LNG bunkering station in Bilbao, one of the companies intending to use the facility, Brittany Ferries, reported on September 21.

The Bilbao terminal, due online in the first half of next year, will have a storage capacity of 1,000 m3. Repsol is investing €10mn ($11.7mn) in the project.

The facility will refuel Brittany Ferries' first LNG-powered ship, Salamanca, that serves UK-Spain routes, as well as its second, Santona.

Repsol is preparing to build a second LNG bunkering facility in Santander further east. Both projects are to be co-financed by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facilities Programme.
