Japan's J-Power joins Asia CCUS network

Japan’s Electric Power Development Co. (J-Power) on June 23 said it had joined Asia CCUS (carbon dioxide capture, utilisation and storage) network as a supporting member. The network was launched on June 22.

The network aims to develop and disseminate CCUS technologies for cleaner use of fossil fuels in Asean and the East Asia Summit (EAS) region. The network has begun its activities from the first Asia CCUS Network Forum held on June 22 and 23 and will share CCUS knowledge through forums and workshops, and conduct surveys on CCUS-related technologies and legal systems, J-Power said.

J-Power said it is taking on the challenge of realising carbon-neutral and hydrogen society as stated in J-Power Blue Mission 2050 announced in February this year. As one of the initiatives in this challenge, CCUS technology development is underway aiming for transition to CO2-free hydrogen energy made from coal with CCUS/carbon recycling, the company said.
