Canadian Montney producer earns responsible gas status

Pacific Canbriam Energy, which will provide natural gas from the prolific Montney formation to the planned Woodfibre LNG terminal on Canada’s west coast, has earned Equitable Origin’s EO100™ certification as a producer of responsible natural gas, it said August 31.

It’s the second Canadian producer to achieve the certification, following Seven Generations Energy, which was EO100™ certified in 2020 and is now selling certified natural gas at a premium to distribution customers in Quebec and Vermont. Seven Generations was acquired earlier this year by ARC Resources.

“Achieving EO100™ Standard Certification is a milestone accomplishment for Pacific Canbriam and sets the bar for regular measurement, benchmarking and continuous improvement,” Pacific Canbriam president Paul Myers said. “The certification also marks the beginning of a new, more transparent era of natural gas development in Canada where we show the world that resources are, and will continue to be, developed to the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility.”

Pacific Canbriam was awarded the certification after it demonstrated excellence and met performance targets in five areas: corporate governance and ethics; social impacts, human rights and community engagement; indigenous peoples’ rights; occupational health and safety and fair labour standards; and environmental impacts, biodiversity and climate change.

“Pacific Canbriam is helping to lead the way in their industry by not only meeting the stringent requirements of the EO100™ Standard, but also going above and beyond in many areas including human rights, inclusive engagement, good faith consultation and land rights,” Equitable Origine CEO Soledad Mills said.”

Pacific Canbriam is privately-owned by Singapore’s Pacific Oil & Gas, which also owns the 2.1mn mt/yr Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish, north of Vancouver.
